Lightroom was introduced as a beta release to the Mac platform in early 2006. Then in early 2007 it was introduced as Lightroom 1 for both the Mac and Windows and became an immediate hit. It was less expensive than Photoshop, provided an easy way to organize files, could be used to
manipulate images effectively without the loss of quality that destructive editing software was prone to and therefore was ideal for photographers to get into the business of photo editing and it was cheap. Of course, it had its problems, as all new software does, and its unique, non- destructive methodology confused people because of the way it handled files and its entirely new way of doing photo editing. Therefore, it wasn’t adopted by everyone and still isn’t to this day, but it is largely the premier editing program used by most professional photographers who realized its value in making their workflow smoother and faster.
Lightroom has evolved over the years to become the major tool that photographers use to organize, sort, edit, print, display and distribute their images. However, it is still sometimes confusing to people who are new to the program and because of that it takes a bit of time to learn the concepts behind this powerful tool.
A few years ago, Adobe introduced, with a bit of confusion, a new product to Lightroom and named it the same as the other one, Lightroom CC. It is a cloud-based system that allows you to share your images across platforms such as your iPhone or iPad. Unfortunately, having the same name as the existing Lightroom product which was also called Lightroom CC caused the older program to be renamed to Lightroom Classic CC. Lightroom CC is not as powerful in terms of what you can do with it as Lightroom Classic CC, but the gap is narrowing as time goes on between the two products.
This book is about Lightroom Classic CC version only because of its powerful features and ability to do more with your images than the cloud-based version can.
I wrote this book to help you understand how Lightroom Classic CC can be used in your everyday photo editing. The basic concepts that are being presented will help you get over the initial strangeness of the program and make you a more productive photographer by introducing you to a workflow that uses Lightroom. The book will lead you gradually on to the more robust features in this wonderful tool. My intention, therefore, is to provide enough to
